AUO, a major panel manufacturer, is actively developing Micro LED. Chairman Peng Shuanglang said that Micro LED will grow year by year in the next year, and will maintain a trend of cost reduction of 50% every two years. It is expected that by 2029, Micro LED will be able to compete with some OLED products.
Peng Shuanglang said that Micro LED is suitable for areas with low price sensitivity, such as wearables, automobiles, etc. In addition, in terms of large size, because Micro LED can be spliced to expand the size, it can break through the limitation of OLED, which is only about 80 inches at most.
Peng Shuanglang pointed out that AUO's Micro LED products will be used in wearable products in 2023 and are currently being shipped. This year, they will also begin to be deployed in the direction of large-size automobiles. They are expected to be launched next year. In addition, they will also be used in TVs and laptops.
At Touch Taiwan this year, AUO also exhibited for the first time a 127-inch TV spliced into the world's largest single-module 42-inch Micro LED display developed with brand customers; it also cooperated with Samsung Electronics on a full range of Micro LED TVs, using AU Optronics' Micro LED backplane technology and frameless design, giving full play to the unlimited splicing advantages.
In addition, AUO also launched the world's thinnest and first 17.3-inch double-sided transparent Micro LED display, which can project different information on both sides of the same screen, creating a unique "transparent" interactive experience. Application scenarios include aircraft first-class seat compartments, commercial advertising, home decoration, sales venues and other diverse fields.
