On March 10, Apple held its 2015 spring conference in San Francisco, USA, announcing that it would officially go on sale on April 24, its first smart watch, Apple Watch, with a battery life of 18 hours.
Apple said that Apple Watch has three series: Apple Watch Sport (10 models), Apple Watch (20 models) and Apple Watch Edition (8 models). Each series comes in two case sizes, 38mm and 42mm, but all Apple Watches are functionally identical.
Differences between the three series:
Apple Watch Sport: has a silver or space gray anodized aluminum metal case, Ion-X glass material, composite material back, priced at 2,588 yuan for 38 mm and 2,988 yuan for 42 mm.
Apple Watch: Available in stainless steel or space black stainless steel case, sapphire crystal mirror, ceramic back, different straps, different prices, 4188 yuan - 8288 yuan.
Apple Watch Edition: Made of unique and innovative 18K gold or rose gold, sapphire crystal mirror, ceramic back, priced from 74,800 yuan to 126,800 yuan.
Apple Watch will be available for pre-sale in stores on April 10th and will be officially launched on the 24th. The first batch of countries for sale include Australia, Germany, the United States, Japan, China (mainland and Hong Kong), etc.
Apple Watch has the functions mentioned at last year’s press conference such as phone answering (built-in speaker and microphone support), text message reading and reply, etc. At this conference, Apple emphasized the health functions of the product. Apple Watch can provide users with health reports at the end of each week, similar to a personal trainer. Through the Digital Touch function, Apple Watch can send heartbeat and other health data to other users’ Apple Watches.
In terms of other functions, Apple Watch has Glance, which allows you to quickly browse information by swiping the watch face. Apple Watch can receive all reminders on your phone, such as sports scores, social software, news, etc. In addition, Apple Watch also supports Apple Pay, Siri voice control, hailing a ride with Uber, managing air tickets with Passbook, quickly opening hotel room and garage door locks, connecting to surveillance cameras, and even controlling WeChat applications with voice and making payments with Alipay.
In the field of smart wear, the functions of Apple Watch can be said to be all-inclusive. This is not only the characteristic of Apple Watch, but also its biggest controversial point. When it is highly overlapping in functionality with mobile phones, why don’t we take out mobile phones with larger screens and operate them? Presumably, the user appeal of this product is more fashionable than functional. Will such a product be recognized by the market? It remains to be seen.
