There are reports that EESL has caused the price of LED bulbs to drop from 310 rupees in February last year to 73 rupees in June 2015, a drop of more than 75%.
The goal of this plan is to replace all 770 million incandescent light bulbs on sale in the Indian market with LED lights. This will reduce the load of 20,000 megawatts, save 100 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80 million tons every year.
In a separate statement, EESL said it has launched the flagship project of the Domestic Efficient Lighting Program (DELP) - Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) employee program in Umaid Bhawan Metro.
It is understood that in order to benefit employees from this scheme, distribution centers have been set up in all branches of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). It is estimated that 8,000 Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) employees will benefit from this innovative solution.
Mangu Singh, General Manager of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), said: "Through this partnership, we are considering installing LED bulbs at stations, offices and warehouses. We are doing our best to ensure energy efficiency and work towards saving expenses and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. We believe that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) employees will benefit greatly from this initiative."
Benefiting from the DELP scheme of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), DMRC employees can buy up to 10 LED bulbs at one-third of the market price. Each LED bulb can save them about 160-400 rupees in annual electricity bills.
Under the Efficient Lighting Demand Management Program (DELP), EESL has distributed 23 million LED bulbs across the country. EESL also aims to replace 770 million incandescent light bulbs (domestic sector) nationwide by 2019.
A joint venture between power producers National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Rural Electrification Corp, Power Grid Corp and EESL has jointly formed a joint venture, Power Finance Corporation, to facilitate the implementation of energy efficiency projects.
