According to Korean media ZDNET on June 1, JD.com has sent invitations to partner companies to participate in the mass shipment ceremony of the 8.6th generation OLED production line for IT, scheduled to be held in mid-June.
According to previous reports, the first batch of product customers of BOE’s 8.6-generation OLED production line include Asus and Acer. The products are 14-inch OLED panels. The specific model and output have not yet been announced.
BOE stated at its performance briefing held in April this year that its 8.6-generation OLED business is undergoing customer sample verification. In addition, BOE pointed out in its investor record sheet released in May that the industry's 8.6th-generation OLED production lines will begin mass production in 2026. Catalyzed by this, OLED automotive and NB penetration rates are expected to increase.
Data show that BOE’s 8.6-generation production line has an investment scale of approximately RMB 63 billion. It will be constructed in two phases and has a designed monthly production capacity of 32,000 pieces. The production line uses low-temperature polycrystalline oxide technology, which combines low-temperature polysilicon and oxide thin film transistors to help optimize the screen refresh rate and reduce power consumption. It is gradually being used in OLED panels for IT products such as laptops and tablets.
It is worth mentioning that there is news that the yield rate of Samsung Display’s 8.6th generation OLED panel production line exceeded 90% at the end of May, meeting mass production requirements. Among them, the yield rate of some individual processes such as thin film transistors, evaporation, packaging and touch in the production line has reached 95%. Front-end processes, including evaporation and packaging of TFT and OLED, are completed in Samsung Display's Korean factory; back-end processes, such as module assembly, are completed in Vietnam.
According to previous news, Samsung Display will begin mass production and shipment of 8.6-generation OLED panels in June. The products are expected to be used in Apple's 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. This year's supply is expected to be about 2 million pieces.
