Mermaid creates box office myth, environmental issues are mentioned again

The movie "Mermaid" directed by Stephen Chow has been breaking box office records since it was released on New Year's Day. In just 9 days, the box office has reached more than 2.1 billion, and continues to grow. With such a high box office record, in addition to the pure love of mermaid love, the authentic Zhou's nonsensical combination with the environmental theme also made the audience happy and rewarded. Some netizens left a message saying: "Sing Ye's movies are never just funny. After watching "Mermaid", I also fell into reflection on the environment and human beings."

Indeed, in recent years, with the continuous improvement of people's environmental awareness, environmental problems closely related to people's lives, such as light pollution, water pollution, urban haze, etc., have increasingly attracted social attention and reflection. For our LED display industry, dazzling outdoor LED screens have long been included in the "blacklist" of urban pollution.

In September 2015, a resident surnamed Chen complained on the 12345 website: the "Yifei Foreign Language" training institution in Zhongmin Building continuously scrolled and played promotional advertisements on the LED display screen, which was very glaring and had seriously affected the lives of nearby residents. But after more than two months of complaints, little results were achieved.

Coincidentally, a few days ago, Ms. Hu, a citizen, reported: A few days ago, a huge LED display screen was installed in the Jiale Shopping Plaza opposite the community, which plays in a loop every day. Because the distance is too close or the brightness is too high, the display seriously affects the normal life of many residents. For example, in my house, when I sit in the living room facing the screen to eat at night, I almost don’t need to turn on the lights! Faced with such serious "light pollution", my neighbors and I have complained and reported it for several months, but the problem has not been resolved yet.

As we all know, the LED industry is a "light-making" industry. Compared with other outdoor advertising forms, bright and energy-saving outdoor LED displays can present rich and colorful pictures. At night, magnificent, rolling screens not only give the city a vibrant atmosphere of the times, but also enhance the overall class and modern image of the city. But why, as the number of outdoor LED displays increases, LED displays become the target of public criticism?

According to relevant professional departments, the brightness of sunlight in our lives is 2000cd, while the brightness of outdoor LED displays on the market is as high as 5000cd. Therefore, under strong light, if the installation position of the outdoor LED display is too low, it will easily cause damage to the human cornea and iris when viewed directly with the naked eye, causing visual fatigue and vision loss. In severe cases, it may even make people feel dizzy, nauseous and vomiting. To make matters worse, many businesses build LED displays at will without approval. These LED displays directly interfere with the normal life of nearby residents.

So, the question is, how can we keep outdoor LED displays away from the pollution "blacklist"? The author believes that, first of all, the government should gradually improve the supervision mechanism. Although Shenzhen City's "Shenzhen City Outdoor LED Display Settings Special Plan" stipulates that in large open spaces in large municipal parks and municipal squares, an appropriate amount of outdoor LED displays that broadcast municipal information and public welfare content can be set up according to public service needs; LED displays are prohibited in purely residential areas. However, the government's supervision mechanism is obviously lacking. For example, Mr. Chen and Ms. Hu have reported to the relevant departments many times, but the matter has not been perfectly resolved.

Secondly, advertisers should control the broadcast time and try not to open it from 22:30 to 7:30 the next day; choose a suitable geographical location to avoid the impact of light pollution on the environment. For example, most LED displays in Shanghai are placed along the river.

Finally, LED screen companies use a brightness adjustment system that can automatically adjust the system and multi-level grayscale correction technology to make people feel soft colors when watching and avoid people's discomfort with light.

Mermaid Shanshan finally said when faced with the naked pursuit of money: "When the world has lost even the last drop of clean water and a breath of clean air, what is the meaning of money?". Yes, even the water and air that we need to survive are gone, and money is just a piece of waste paper. Looking back at our LED industry, when the night is illuminated by LED displays as bright as day, can we still sleep peacefully? Therefore, how to integrate outdoor LED displays into the urban landscape and make the city more vibrant at night is the direction of our future development.
