Shuji Nakamura currently serves as a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2008, he founded a venture company manufacturing light-emitting diodes with his college classmates. While conducting research, he devoted himself to developing bright and energy-saving products.
Nakamura held a press conference at around 5:30 a.m. Japan time on the 9th at the venture corporate office located in the suburbs of San Francisco. At the beginning of the meeting, Nakamura said shyly: "Although I was very tired, I really had a good sleep yesterday." Then he began to review the events of the day before the announcement.
When asked how he would use the bonus, Mr. Nakamura said: "The bonus hasn't been received yet, so I can't do anything yet." This caused laughter at the scene.
When promoting the significance of researcher entrepreneurship, Nakamura said: "Because we are university researchers, we must establish venture companies that can develop the latest technologies." He also expressed that his future goal is to develop more efficient light-emitting diodes that can emit natural light.
