OSRAM Traxon’s innovative light art shines at the 2014 Light Festival

Traxon Technologies, a subsidiary of OSRAM, sponsors this light festival and helps two innovative light art works to be beautifully presented

Singapore’s third "i Light Marina Bay 2014" (i Light Marina Bay 2014) light festival will officially kick off on March 7, showcasing the artistic works of top light artists from around the world. Traxon Technologies (Traxon), the world's leading solid-state lighting and control system solution provider under Osram, not only sponsored Asia's only ecological light art festival, but also worked with its control brand e:cue to provide simple, flexible and creative LED lighting solutions for the two unique art installations Joujou-Ours and Bedazzled that attracted much attention at this festival.

Singapore's "i Light Marina Bay 2014" light festival is a concentrated display of light art works and its international creative talent lineup. This year's theme is Light+HeART, which aims to delight people through light art installations, while provoking thought and enlightening wisdom.

Creative light art comes from innovative solutions
This year’s Light Festival showcased a total of 28 innovative and environmentally sustainable light art installations from around the world. As a sponsor, Traxon Technologies provided Traxon Dot XL, String RGB and e:cueButler XT2 microserver lighting solutions to artists from Lai Yunong’s Uno Lai Design Group and Meinhardt Light Studio to help them realize their creative lighting art concepts. Whether it’s Joujou-Ours’ adorable teddy bear light installation, or Bedazzled’s starry sky light installation, each artist creatively harnesses the power of light and transforms it into exquisite works of art.

The Joujou-Ours light art installation designed by Lai Yunong evokes people's warm and nostalgic feelings

Most people have a teddy bear deep in their memory and have had the experience of playing with it. No matter how old they are now, teddy bears will always be a lingering memory in their hearts. Joujou-Ours light art installation is one such work full of memories. It consists of several giant teddy bears and is illuminated by energy-saving LED lights. Joujou-Ours means "teddy bear" in French. Each teddy bear has its own personality, which is reflected not only in the colors and effects of the lights, but also in their design and accessories such as hats, glasses and beards. In addition to showing unique lighting effects, different teddy bears can react differently to human movements and touches through motion sensors. Walking closer triggers their lighting effects, and touching them triggers alternating lighting effects. Using Traxon dot lights (Dot XL) and the e:cueButler XT2 micro server lighting solution, Joujou-Ours created a dynamic experience that evoked warm and nostalgic feelings in the audience.

To most city dwellers, the stars and starry sky are as far away as myths. Light is crucial to our daily activities and is an integral part of life. However, when the gorgeous neon lights light up the city, the beautiful night sky disappears from our sight. Bedazzled brings people closer to the natural starry sky that has gradually disappeared under light pollution, making them feel like they are under a real starry night. You can see the twinkling constellations, making you believe in the magic again.

Meinhardt Light Studio, the creative team behind Bedazzled, hopes that viewers can appreciate the vastness of the universe and the feedback we give to the universe. In order to recreate a starry night sky, the two domes of the Bedazzled lighting installation were equipped with Traxon string light (String RGB) systems, thereby lighting up 12 lifelike constellations on the RGB LED screen. For the pre-programmed effects of other single stars, the designer combined the e:cueButler XT2 micro-server and Butler S2 micro-server lighting control system and connected them through a network switch to provide DMX control signals for the RGB LED screen.

In addition to light art installations, visitors to the Light Festival can also participate in and enjoy a series of other activities, public programs and entertainment over four consecutive weekends, including free guided tours, open-air film screenings and entertainment performances, outdoor food spaces, educational lectures and workshops, etc., providing visitors with a wide variety of rich experiences.
