AR glasses place extremely high requirements on the brightness, resolution and reliability of the display screen. Existing display technology is obviously far from sufficient to support consumer-grade AR products. High-brightness, full-color Micro LED solutions are still the core demands of industry development. As pixel size and spacing continue to shrink, light-emitting performance and mass production will face great challenges at the same time. On this basis, achieving ultra-high brightness and single-chip full-color display is a bottleneck that has not yet been broken through in the world.
Founded in 2019, Leiyu has been focusing on Micro LED microdisplay chip architecture design, process and monolithic full-color technology research, aiming to create an ideal full-color microdisplay solution for AR glasses.
In 2019, Radium released the world's first single-chip full-color Micro LED microdisplay chip in Silicon Valley, demonstrating the advantages of ultra-high brightness, high light efficiency, small size, and low power consumption. In 2022, Leiyu successfully lit up 0.39 Britishinch single-chip full-color Micro LED microdisplay chip. Today, the standardization process of Micro LED micro-display products has made breakthrough progress.
As the only single-chip full-color micro-display in the world that simultaneously achieves the highest brightness, highest PPI, and smallest size, Radium Yu’s 0.11 and 0.22-inch single-chip full-color chips have achieved ultra-small pixel pitch of 3.5 microns, Micro LED pixel density as high as 7,000 PPI, and full-color brightness as high as 100,000 nits. The 24-bit color depth enables more delicate true color performance, and the maximum frame rate of 300Hz supports clear and smooth picture display.
In addition, the display has a physical size that is less than the size of a matchhead. While achieving high-brightness full-color display, it can greatly help AR glasses achieve a perfect balance between performance, weight, appearance and cost, providing more imagination space for AR content ecology and application scenarios.
It is understood that Leiyu uses quantum dot color conversion technology. Through standard photolithography process, it realizes a high-resolution and high-light-efficiency quantum dot color conversion film suitable for GaN blue Micro LED. It excites red and green quantum dots through blue light, converts blue light into red light and green light, and realizes RGB three primary colors on a single chip, thereby realizing full-color chip.
In terms of display effects, Leiyu uses a unique optical isolation structure to effectively reduce RGB color light crosstalk and achieve higher contrast.and color saturation. At the same time, Leiyu's self-developed photolithographic quantum dot technology can effectively solve the light efficiency and brightness problems of native red light, qualitatively improving the overall brightness of the full-color chip.
Currently, Radium Yu’s photolithography quantum dot process is much higher than quantum dot printing and other solutions in terms of efficiency, precision, and mass production. Compared with the three-color full-color solution, in addition to the obvious advantages of miniaturization, Radium Yu’s single-chip full-color solution has more cost advantages and mass production.
Leiyu revealed that the first generation of standardized single-chip full-color Micro LED microdisplay will be officially released in May and will be exhibited at SID Display Week 2023 in Los Angeles, USA.
