It is reported that Unilumin started pre-research on COB technology in 2012 and carried out research and development of process materials; in 2016, it launched special research to realize the commercialization of the technology; in 2018, it launched the industry's first COB The encapsulated MiniP0.9 product has been mass-produced and commercially available; in 2020, Unilumin launched the patented technology of EBL+ multi-layer optical film packaging, combined with common cathode cold screen technology, to break through industry problems such as ink color consistency and heat dissipation of COB products; last year, Unilumin took the lead in releasing Micro0.4 products and achieving mass production.

At the press conference, Huang Xiongbiao of Unilumin Technology said: "2023 is the first year for the application of Unilumin's COB products in all scenarios. Unilumin's Mini/Micro technology based on COB technology has taken the lead in achieving full coverage of application scenarios. Currently, Unilumin has six major product series with full coverage, which can meet the application needs and application markets of different customers, including UMicro, Umini III Pro, UMiniⅢ, UMiniW, and Lamp’s LMini and outdoor COB products. Among them, Unilumin UMicro products are equipped with quadruple energy-saving technologies. They are the first COB products in the industry to obtain carbon neutrality and carbon labels, and are unanimously recognized by the market. ”

Unilumin’s Mini/Micro technology layout: two cores, five supports, and one platform

In Mini/Micro. In terms of COB technology layout, Unilumin uses its Mini/Micro Research Institute as the base, focusing on the two cores of mass transfer yield and fully automated production process, to form five major process supports of full flip-chip, substrate, packaging, driver, and system.

●In terms of substrates, Unilumin adopts the HDI M-SAP process, which not only achieves higher pad size accuracy, but also improves the chip bonding process window, which can largely solve the problem of module color cast in the industry.

●In terms of packaging, Unilumin uses Unilumin’s self-developed EBL+ multi-layer optical processing technology to present the ultimate pure black with no reflection when viewed and no traces when touched; at the same time, through upgrading of Molding materials/processes, the viewing angle problem is completely solved.

●In terms of driving, Unilumin supports low-gray correction with high-precision 3ns pulse width through EDL+ driving technology, which can achieve higher dynamic contrast.

●In terms of system, Unilumin’s full range of Mini/Micro products are automatically adapted to Unilumin’s own UOS system, with high color reproduction and fine display.

In addition, Huang Xiong of Unilumin Technology stated: "In view of the yield problems of COB, the massive transfer technology applied by Unilumin can steadily improve the efficiency and yield of COB. In terms of maintenance, Unilumin adopts fully automated repair, AOI automatic identification of dead pixels, and completes repair and delivery in the fastest 48 hours, meeting the needs of customers to the greatest extent."
