Seoul Semiconductor’s first quarter revenue was 239.2 billion won

On May 9, Seoul Semiconductor announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2025.

In the first quarter of 2025, Seoul Semiconductor achieved revenue of 239.2 billion won (approximately RMB 1.230 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 1% and a decrease of 11% from the previous quarter. In terms of profit, its operating profit continued to suffer losses; the adjusted profit before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization was 4 billion won, and the adjusted profit margin before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization was 2%. The decline in Seoul Semiconductor's performance was mainly affected by macroeconomic fluctuations and seasonal demand. However, Seoul Semiconductor is actively laying the foundation for future profit improvement by strictly controlling costs and optimizing production efficiency.

Despite the pressure on short-term profits, Seoul Semiconductor continued to maintain high R&D investment in the first quarter. The amount invested in R&D during the reporting period was 26 billion won, accounting for 11% of sales. The company focuses on the development of next-generation products such as SunLike natural light technology, WICOP automotive lighting solutions and LBL low blue light display technology.

During the reporting period, Seoul Semiconductor’s automotive division performed outstandingly. Seoul Semiconductor said that its WICOP technology has been widely adopted by the world's top ten car manufacturers and applied to more than 100 models. Automotive lighting sales have achieved an annual growth rate of 20~30%, becoming an important growth driver for the company.

In the field of general lighting business, Seoul Semiconductor's independently developed SunLike light source technology continues to expand its application in the global commercial, industrial and household lighting markets with its characteristics close to the natural light spectrum. At the same time, this technology has passed clinical verification in the field of healthy lighting and can be used in scenarios such as comfortable vision, children's myopia prevention, sleep aid and other scenarios.

The IT Display Division continues to create ultra-thin, low-blue-light next-generation display products based on LBL technology and Mini LED's WICOP architecture.

Looking forward to the second quarter of 2025, Seoul Semiconductor predicts that the company's revenue will be between 260 billion and 280 billion won, with a month-on-month increase of 9% to 17% and a year-on-year decline of approximately 1% to 8%. It is expected that as demand for automotive and IT display and lighting businesses recovers, Seoul Semiconductor's revenue and profitability will gradually improve.

In the past few quarters, in the context of the continued sluggish market environment, the automotive business unit has become the main driving force for the growth and stability of Seoul Semiconductor's performance, and has become one of the main highlights in Seoul Semiconductor's performance report. Seoul Semiconductor said that driven by the automotive business unit, Seoul Semiconductor's sales continued to remain stable and continued to expand its market share in the global LED field.
