Shuji Nakamura: Optimistic about the future of LED, the breakthrough point lies in phase consistency

Although the light-emitting diode (LED) industry is regarded by the market as one of the "miserables", Shuji Nakamura, the 2014 Nobel Prize winner in physics, known as the godfather of blue light, is still optimistic about the prospects of the LED industry.

The International Semiconductor Exhibition kicks off today. Shuji Nakamura has been invited to Taiwan to participate in the Technology Elite Leaders Summit Forum. In addition to giving a speech on the invention of blue LED, laser and solid-state lighting, he will also have a discussion with Executive Yuan Vice President Zhang Shanzheng and ASE Chief Operating Officer Wu Tianyu.

When interviewed, Shuji Nakamura said he was optimistic about the prospects of the LED industry, but it was difficult for manufacturers to make profits from the production of components, and the industry should develop towards systems. He also revealed that the next breakthrough for LED is phase consistency, so that light can travel farther.
