Display industry analyst Ross Young said today that the upcoming 11-inch iPad Pro will use the LED Liquid Retina display found in the current generation model, rather than the newer mini-LED display technology found in the larger 12.9-inch size.
Young's reply on Twitter reiterates previous rumors that the upcoming 11-inch iPad Pro will not get the updated mini-LED display technology, which means customers who want a more advanced display will need to refocus on the larger 12.9-inch size.
Early rumors suggest that for the next iPad Pro update, Apple will expand the mini-LED display launched on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro in April 2021 to a small 11-inch size. Apple officially describes that the XDR display on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro brings a more extreme dynamic range to the iPad Pro, providing more realistic details and the "amazing visual experience" of HDR.
The 11-inch iPad Pro display is also an LED Liquid Retina display and still has many of the same capabilities as the one on the 12.9-inch model, but with slightly less dynamic range, brightness, and black performance. Young anticipates upcoming 11-inch and 12.9The 2-inch iPad Pro will use the same display as their respective current-generation models.
The new iPad Pro is expected to bring incremental updates, use a new chip, and may have faster charging capabilities. The new model will use Apple's M2 chip, which has improved performance compared to the M1 chip of the current model.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reported that Apple does not plan to hold online or offline launch events for these new iPad Pros this month. Instead, Apple is expected to announce new iPad Pro models "within days" via a press release and an update on its website.
