It is understood that with the cross-licensing of Epistar and Philips, the recent investment of US company CREE in Lextar, and Sanan's investment in Canyuan in Taiwan, the government has gradually understood the competitive strength of Taiwan's LED industry. Considering that Taiwan's LED industry is encountering unequal competition from mainland official auxiliary manufacturers, the Ministry of Economic Affairs is actively formulating policies to assist industry development.
Shen Rongjin revealed that the Ministry of Economic Affairs has actively promoted the development of the LED industry. Currently, a total of 510,000 street lamps in Taiwan have been replaced or are being replaced with LEDs, accounting for 30% of the total number of street lamps in the country, which can save 230 million kilowatt-hours of electricity every year. Next, we plan to replace lighting in government departments with LED as soon as possible, and develop a subsidy program for people to use LED light bulbs.
The director of the New Taipei City Government stated that there are currently 220,000 street lights in New Taipei City, and only 4.2 have been replaced with LED street lights. The Public Works Bureau, through the private financing proposal system PFI (Private Finance Initiative), uses private funds and technology to promote energy-saving street lights, which will be on the road in the near future. It is hoped that more than half of the street lights will be replaced by the end of this year. It is understood that the Taichung City Government also intends to follow up on the private financing system, with private funding responsible for replacing LED street lights in the city, and the city government will repay the electricity savings in six years.
