Yuan Youlou disclosed the above information when attending the national "LED Enterprise Intellectual Property Management and Innovation Strategy Summit Forum" held on the 25th.
Guangdong is a major province in China’s LED industry and the first province in China to list the LED industry as a key strategic emerging industry. Its output value accounts for about 70% of the country’s total. Data show that as of the end of 2013, the output value of Guangdong's LED industry was 280 billion yuan (6.1913, -0.0031, -0.05%), and the number of LED companies in the province increased by more than 30% compared with 2012.
Yuan Youlou introduced that as of now, there are about 340,000 intellectual property rights in the global LED field, of which Chinese patent applications account for 1/5, more than 70,000, of which more than 20,000 are in Guangdong. However, among all patent applications in China, 70% are in application fields and are located downstream of the industrial chain. More than 50% of core patented technologies are occupied by a few international companies.
Industry insiders pointed out that in recent years, Chinese LED companies have continued to expand in overseas markets by virtue of their cost advantages. However, due to the lack of core patents, LED intellectual property issues are becoming a bottleneck that restricts Chinese LED companies from "going out".
