Compared with the overseas sports industry - 2.9% in the United States and 2.0% globally, the current proportion of my country's sports industry in GDP is only 0.6%, which is obviously low, and there is still huge room for growth. The "Several Opinions on Accelerating the Development of the Sports Industry and Promoting Sports Consumption (Guofa No. 2014 [46])" issued by the State Council last year pointed out that by 2025, the total scale of the sports industry will exceed 5 trillion yuan. This means that the compound growth rate of the sports industry in the next 10 years will reach more than 27%. Therefore, China's sports industry will usher in rapid development in the next 10 years.
Application of LED display in sports industry
As we all know, the application tentacles of LED display products have already extended to the sports industry. Nowadays, LED displays have become an indispensable display medium in large-scale sports events. With its excellent brightness, color, lifespan, application flexibility and other advantages, LED displays have been widely used in many domestic and foreign sports events - the Beijing Olympics, Guangzhou Asian Games, Shenzhen Universiade, Sochi Winter Olympics, etc., including opening and closing ceremony performances, information displays inside and outside the venue, and displays around the venue. Its application cases are becoming increasingly abundant, and its output value continues to break through and reach new levels.
The role of LED display screens in sports events is mainly reflected in two aspects: 1) stage display, mainly the stage performances of the opening and closing ceremonies; 2) information dissemination, including direct service to the live audience at the back of the stadium and the large-screen live broadcast of the outside audience standing outside the venue to watch, including the on-site timing and scoreboard, and also includes the fence screen around the venue, which mainly plays commercial advertisements and highlight shot replays. As the digitization of sports events increases, its applications begin to penetrate into every corner of sports venues, achieving a high degree of integration with sports events.
LED display companies layout the sports industry
In recent years, there have been many companies in the LED display industry that have made money in the sports field, among which Lehman is the leader. As early as June 2011, Ledman Optoelectronics became a strategic partner of the Chinese Football Association, then became the official sponsor of the Chinese Super League from 2012 to 2016, and became a strategic partner of the Chinese Football Association from 2012 to 2016. Following the establishment of the sports industry M&A fund in July this year (the company cooperated with controlling shareholders Li Mantie and Beijing Kaixing Capital to establish the Beijing Lehman Kaixing Sports and Culture Fund with a fund size of 500 million yuan), it then changed the securities abbreviation from the original "Lehman Optoelectronics" to "Lehman Shares". This name change means the further establishment of the Lehman Sports strategy.
Li Mantie, chairman of Ledman Optoelectronics, said in early 2015 that in the next two years, the company's sports business will surpass its current main business. The current sports business accounts for about 10% of Ledman Optoelectronics' revenue, which means that in the next two years, the proportion of sports business revenue will increase from the current 10% to more than 50%. Lehman Chairman Li Mantie said that he is "very optimistic about the future of Chinese football and China's sports industry. The next ten years starting from 2015 will be a new decade for Lehman's take-off in the sports industry."
If Ledman Optoelectronics’ sports strategy is mainly focused on football, then Alto Electronics has achieved a perfect marriage with basketball. After the company cooperated with international top event organizations such as UEFA, FIFA, Wimbledon Open, French Open, etc., in 2015, Alto Electronics once again reached a global strategic partnership with the world's highest level basketball organization - International Basketball Federation (FIBA). This move will definitely further enhance Alto Electronics' industry influence on a global scale. As the contractor of LED peripheral display systems for all venues of the 2015 Changsha Asian Championship, Alto Electronics also witnessed the Chinese men’s basketball team win the Asian Championship again this year after four years. With the 2019 Basketball World Cup being held in China, the two parties will have good cooperation in more FIBA high-level events.
Data show that Alto Electronics achieved sales of 63.69 million yuan in LED display products in the sports industry in 2014, accounting for 36% of the revenue from LED display products. Alto Electronics said that the sports industry is one of the key markets for the company to expand.
The 2015 China Tennis Open will be held at the National Tennis Center in Beijing from September 27 to October 11. Leyard continues to be the exclusive LED display partner of the 2015 China Open, bringing a series of LED displays to the major venues of the 2015 China Open. In addition, Leyard's exciting sports cases include: the large screen live broadcast of the Houston Rockets home game, the 2013 Shenyang National Games, the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, etc. On November 5, Leyard entered the Tencent Sports Studio to help Tencent Sports build the world's top single studio.
In addition, some companies in the industry have also begun to make a mark in sports events. Following Beijing's successful bid for the Olympics again on July 31 this year, Unilumin Technology immediately began to actively prepare to apply for LED-related project suppliers for the 2022 Beijing-Zhangjiakou Winter Olympics. This is not the first time that Unilumin Technology has made efforts in large-scale sports events. For example, at the Sochi Winter Olympics held in 2014, Unilumin Technology undertook the business of columnar screens for the opening and closing ceremonies, and gained a good reputation.
The classic cases of sports events of Beijing Gionee Xiangyicai Technology Co., Ltd., which has long been well-known in the field of creative display - the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the opening ceremony of the 16th Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010, the opening ceremony of the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade, the opening ceremony of the 2013 Second Asian Youth Games, etc. are also word-of-mouth.
China’s sports industry is a big cake, attracting the injection of various domestic capitals. Since LED displays are playing an increasingly important role in sports competitions, there is no reason to doubt that LED display companies will continue to make in-depth arrangements in the sports industry in the future.
Liu Peng, director of the State Sports General Administration, also said at this year’s National Sports Directors’ Meeting: “The structure of China’s sports industry continues to be optimized, the proportion of the sports service industry has grown steadily, the sports industry system has continued to improve, and the interaction and integration with culture, tourism, medical care, elderly care, the Internet and other fields are increasingly deepening.” With the active promotion of all parties, the sports industry may become the next outlet for the development of LED displays.
