The reasons for moving to LED smart lighting are two-fold: first, there is the common need to dim or switch off depending on the time of day or ambient light levels; second, centralized control of multiple street and traffic lights is becoming more common. According to one road operator: "You can finally monitor every LED fixture and know how it is working and whether it is malfunctioning. Everything will be centralized."
