China’s LED industry is ushering in a major investment boom. On one side, Lisian Semiconductor's 5.2 billion yuan Chongqing project was officially signed, and on the other side, BOE Huacan's 2 billion yuan Suzhou base was announced to be put into production. The total investment in the two major projects is as high as 7.2 billion yuan.

According to the official website of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, Suzhou Lishen Semiconductor plans to invest 5.2 billion yuan in the Kowloon New City of the Chongqing Hub Port Industrial Park to lay out "automotive-scale optoelectronic modules and new display device manufacturing projects."
The project will be constructed in two phases, covering an area of about 100 acres, with a total construction area of about 80,000 square meters. After completion, it will have an annual production capacity of 1.56 million sets of transparent car window screens, air-conditioning photocatalyst odor purifiers, cockpit lighting and sterilization modules, and 1.2 million sets of new display devices. The project is expected to be formally signed in the near future. Jiulongpo District stated that it will provide the project with supporting and scenario support for semiconductor materials, intelligent network and other related industry chains. After the project is implemented, the local area will also promote the introduction of new display industry chain projects such as cockpit design, parts matching, and quantum dots, semiconductor equipment, and panel factories to further form It will form the dual aggregation effect of the auto parts and new display industries.

Suzhou LEKIN Semiconductor Co., Ltd. was established in 2021. The company's main products include Micro-LED chips, ultraviolet light source chips, automotive grade light source chips, etc. based on silicon-based GaN technology. It has complete intellectual property rights in the entire industry chain of optoelectronic compound semiconductor epitaxy, chips, packaging, modules and applications, and its patents cover the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan and other regions. This production project focuses on high-value tracks such as automotive and plant lighting, promoting the upgrading of the product structure in the direction of high-end, achieving an overall monthly production capacity of nearly 500,000 pieces of the factory, an increase of more than 70% compared with before the expansion. The output value is expected to increase by more than 50%, the overall production efficiency will increase by 20%, and more than 300 new jobs will be created. According to Zhang Yu, general manager of BOE Huacan Optoelectronics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., this project will create the country's leading LED epitaxy and chip manufacturing factory with full color series, full products, and independent supporting production capabilities. From the perspective of production capacity distribution, the Zhangjiagang base and Yiwu jointly undertake the production tasks of LED epitaxial wafers and chips, while the Zhuhai base focuses on Micro LED Industrialization of cutting-edge technologies creates differentiated division of labor. 

It is worth mentioning that since this year, BOE Huacan has also continued to advance its Micro LED layout. In March this year, BOE Huacan completed the product delivery ceremony of the world's first 6-inch Micro LED mass production line in Zhuhai, officially delivering COW (Chip on Wafer) and MPD (Micro Pixel Display) products to customers. The commissioning of the Zhangjiagang project has further strengthened the supply capacity of mid-to-high-end LED chips, especially in the field of automotive display, to meet the growing market demand for high-reliability chips in automotive display and other fields.
