VR demand stimulates LED companies

In 2016, VR was frequently mentioned in the LED industry and considered by many to be a new demand point for industry development.
What are the close connections between VR and LED? Analysts once pointed out in an analysis of the shortage of quaternary LEDs in Taiwanese companies that for the application of IR (infrared sensing), a VR device requires 30 to 40 IRLED sensors to stimulate the usage of quaternary LEDs. In addition, the demand for airport security control sensing is increasing, and the demand for mobile phones, wearable devices, and industrial sensing is also increasing simultaneously, which has a boosting effect on quaternary LEDs. In addition, the spacing of small-pitch RGB LED displays has been reduced and the resolution has been improved, consuming more ultra-high-brightness red LED production capacity. This is one of the main forces absorbing quaternary LED production capacity.
Regarding the future market, some data indicate that “the VR commercial market will rapidly expand and penetrate into various fields. According to the latest research report, the VR market size is expected to reach US$80 billion by 2025, and up to US$182 billion under optimistic conditions. . ”
In addition to data support, the participation of many LED giants at home and abroad seems to further confirm the general trend of the rise of VR, including Osram, Epistar, Everlight, Absen, Sansi, Leyard, Lianjian Optoelectronics, Lohman Holdings, etc., which have penetrated into the investment field.
In September, the VR technology media platform Upload and the consulting law firm PerkinsCoie jointly launched a survey on VR. The respondents included: "VR business founders, senior executives of technology companies, investors and analysts." However, the results of the survey on the biggest obstacles and challenges to the expansion of the VR industry were surprising, giving us a more comprehensive understanding of VR development.
Most of the interviewees said that they do not think that the current high price of VR equipment is a hindrance to the development of the VR industry. They will not take it into consideration when developing or investing in related products. On the contrary, according to the survey, most VR and related industry practitioners believe that “the lack of highly attractive products on the market, imperfect user experience and product pricing are the fatal factors that hinder the continued development of VR/AR industry products in the next few years. "
In addition, about 38% of the respondents said that "user experience" is the biggest problem in the development of the VR industry, and 32% of the respondents chose "product pricing" as the reason. 23% of respondents chose "users are unwilling to buy new products", and only 20% of respondents said that technical barriers are the biggest problem in the development of the VR industry.
In short, many domestic LED companies have already seen the development trend of VR, including Lianchuang Optoelectronics, Lohman Holdings, and Leyard, etc., which have all made plans to develop in this field. How companies can achieve development in this field in the future, regardless of price factors, how to improve user experience, the biggest challenge in VR development, may be a problem that many companies have to consider.
