Xiamen University announces the completion of the world’s first G2.5 MicroLED laser mass transfer demonstration line
Recently, at the world's largest display exhibition "SID Display Week 2023" hosted by the International Society for Information Display (SID), the results of laser mass transfer technology jointly developed by Xiamen University, Xiamen Future Display Technology Research Institute and cooperative units were displayed.
Micro LED technology is known as the "ultimate display" technology. It has the advantages of self-illumination, high efficiency, low power consumption, high integration, high stability, and all-weather operation. It is used in many fields such as flat panel display and extended to augmented reality/virtual reality/mixed reality, spatial display, flexible transparent display, wearable/implantable optoelectronic devices, optical communication/optical interconnection, medical detection, smart car lights, etc.
Micro-LED display involves many fields such as information display and third-generation semiconductors. It has the characteristics of long industrial chain, high threshold, and great challenges. The commercialization of this technology plays an important role in my country's mastery of core technologies in the display field.
Xiamen Future Display Technology Research Institute is hosted by the research team of Professor Zhang Rong of Xiamen University. It has now built the world's first 23.5-inch (G2.5, 370mm×470mm) Micro LED mass transfer process demonstration line. It has a complete Micro LED intelligent manufacturing innovation chain from artificial intelligence-assisted design, chip manufacturing, transfer integration, reliability assessment, etc. At present, Micro LED chip products for multi-application scenarios and high-performance display have been developed, and a high-yield, high-efficiency laser mass transfer full-chain process has been developed to achieve the lighting of single-color and full-color chip arrays.
Xiamen University and Xiamen Future Display Technology Research Institute will continue to be guided by national industry and major engineering construction needs, combined with location advantages, to break through key core technologies for new display industry applications, create an industry-leading Micro LED technology innovation platform, and lead the development of new display industries.
