600 billion yuan output value business opportunity, Taiwan becomes an important base for the global Micro LED industry

Taiwan Display Unio 666 Association (TDUA) on Thursday joined four major associations including Taiwan Display and Application Industry Association, Taiwan Display Materials and Components Industry Association, Taiwan Electronic Equipment Association and more than a dozen industries to jointly establish a Micro LED elite team and announced that this year will be the first year of mass production of Micro LED displays in Taiwan. In the future, we will accelerate the implementation of innovative technologies from panels, materials to equipment, promote mass production investment in the entire industry chain in Taiwan, build Taiwan into an important base for the global Micro LED industry, and seize business opportunities with a global output value of up to NT$600 billion in 2030.

TDUA Chairman Ke Furen said that according to relevant Omdia reports, 2023 is a critical year for the commercialization of Micro LED. In the future, Micro LED As the demand for LED display applications in wearable devices, large-size TVs, digital signage, home theaters, smart cockpits, virtual studios, etc. increases significantly, the market will explode. For Micro LED to have both high brightness and high resolution, the technical difficulty is almost impossible to achieve by relying on individual industries working alone. Equipment, materials and processes from the semiconductor, LCD, and LED industries must be integrated across fields in order to achieve synergistic effects in the shortest possible time. At present, Japan and South Korea are relying on the power of brands to compete, while the mainland is relying on government power to catch up. Taiwan's three major industries of LCD, LED, and semiconductor are highly competitive internationally. If they can accelerate integration in the fields of mass transfer, repair, testing equipment, and key materials, they will surely be able to join forces and further promote industrial development.

Optimistic about Micro LED is regarded as the next generation display technology hegemon. TDUA calls on the four major associations to cooperate with AUO (2409), Innolux (3481), Fucai Investment Control (3714), Nichuang Technology-KY Chuang (6854), Hannstar Caijing, A total of more than ten upstream, mid-stream and downstream companies, including BenQ Materials, Hanmin Technology, Zhisheng Industrial, Junhao Precision, Fanxuan Systems, Dayin Microsystems, Intesheng Technology, Merck Advanced Materials, Yongguang Chemical, Epistar Optoelectronics, etc., established Taiwan Micro The LED elite team not only demonstrates the advantages of Micro LED technology, but also connects the complete industrial chain of domestic upstream semiconductors, midstream panels, and downstream exports. The horizontal links include domestic and foreign supply chains such as advanced materials, semiconductor processes, precision equipment, LEDs, backplanes, packaging and testing, and hopes to successfully make Taiwan a global MicroThe main LED production base will seize the opportunity in the next wave of smart industry.

TDUA Vice Chairman Yang Zhuxiang explained that in order to achieve this goal, TDUA has proposed three strategies. First, promote the localization of Micro LED display manufacturing and materials, technology, and equipment in Taiwan, and promote Micro Development of precision equipment for mass transfer, repair, and measurement of LEDs.
