BOE’s Mini LED automotive display technology is applied in mass production for the first time

Complete solution development capabilities from chips to display modules. At present, BOE's MLED business covers conferences, commercial displays, indoor and outdoor advertising, stage rental, cinemas, xR virtual shooting and other scenarios. At the same time, backlight technology is used in TVs, commercial displays, monitors, laptops and automotive fields.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to the Hongqi "Guoya" series models, the Jikrypton 7X launched in October this year is also equipped with a 16-inch Mini LED floating screen. The screen uses Ruifeng Optoelectronics' Mini LED COB backlight panel solution; while the Xiaomi Automobile SU7 released in April is equipped with a 16.1-inch TCL Huaxing Mini LED backlit central control screen.

As more car companies realize the huge potential of Mini LED technology in improving display effects, Mini LED technology is expected to gradually penetrate into more high-end models in the future, ushering in a broader development space in the automotive industry. TrendForce pointed out that the demand for Mini LED backlights in the automotive display market is growing day by day. It is expected that by 2028, the penetration rate of Mini LED backlights in the automotive field will reach 6%, with approximately 15 million units shipped, an increase of nearly 10 times compared with 2024.

BOE and other panel manufacturers are accelerating the layout of in-vehicle displays

With the rapid growth of market demand, the innovation of in-vehicle display technology has also promoted the development of the entire industry chain.Development. The traditional in-vehicle display supply chain consists of panel factories, module factories, system integrators and vehicle factories, and vehicle factories pass the demand through Tier 1. As in-vehicle displays move toward larger, multi-screen, and high-tech displays, display technology becomes more important. In order to improve efficiency and reduce costs, the vehicle factory began to work directly with the panel factory/module factory, skipping Tier 1, and the supply chain system is being rebuilt.

Currently, in-vehicle display technologies include LCD, OLED, Mini led, and Micro led. Although LCD is still the mainstream, Mini led and Micro led are gradually showing advantages as the automotive industry transitions to the "new four modernizations".

Among them, Mini led technology has begun to be used in high-end models due to its excellent display performance. In addition to the above-mentioned Red Flag Guoya, Ji Krypton 7X, and Xiaomi SU7, models such as the U8, Feifan R7, NiO ET7, Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX, Ideal L7, Ideal L9, Lincoln New Voyager, Cadillac LYRIQ, and the third-generation SAIC Roewe RX5 have all begun to use Mini LED displays. The time to market for these models ranges from 2021 to 2024.

Micro led technology, with its higher brightness, contrast, color performance and lower power consumption, is considered to be the future development trend of in-vehicle display technology. Panel manufacturers such as JD.comFang, TCL Huaxing, Deep Sky Horse, Youda, Qunchuang, etc., are using Micro led as a key layout technology area, in order to occupy a favorable position in the future automotive display market.
