ByteDance’s new Pico Micro OLED VR product may be released next month

According to reports, Pico will showcase its next-generation flagship "Project Swan" XR headset at the Game Developers Conference next month.

This device is positioned as Pico's flagship spatial computing terminal and will run the new PICO OS 6 operating system. The company plans to demonstrate "Project Swan"'s graphics performance, multi-modal interaction system, and tool chains and case demonstrations for developers on site.

According to current public information, "Project Swan" adopts a thin and light design, weighs about 100 grams, and supports multi-modal interaction functions such as gesture recognition and eye tracking. It adopts a hybrid architecture design and transfers some computing tasks to an external computing unit through wired connection, thus balancing high performance and wearing comfort.

It is worth noting that Yang Zhenyuan, vice president of technology of Pico’s parent company ByteDance, once revealed that the headset will be equipped with a self-developed chip and equipped with a customized Micro OLED display. The pixel density is said to be close to 4000PPI, which is higher than the 3386PPI of Apple Vision Pro.

In addition, the average pixel density of Micro OLED screens can reach 40 PPD, and the center even exceeds 45 PPD. Micro-lens technology and optical compensation are used to improve brightness uniformity and color performance.
