A profound change that affects the overall development of our country has arrived. Adhering to the development concept of "innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing", the "13th Five-Year Plan" will lead China towards a comprehensively moderately prosperous society and towards the Republic's "first centenary goal". Taking a closer look at these five major development concepts, the word "green" is particularly eye-catching. Development towards a more economical and energy-saving path will definitely become one of the directions for future enterprises. After decades of development of LED displays, energy saving has become one of the biggest selling points of LED displays in external publicity. At the same time, it has become more and more the focus of discussion.
Currently, LED displays are divided into single color, dual primary color, three primary colors (full color), four primary colors (RGB+yellow Y), and five primary colors (RGB+cyan G+yellow Y). In commercial advertising, most full-color displays with three primary colors are used. Four primary colors are rarely used due to cost, and five primary colors are still in theory.
The luminescent material of the LED display itself is energy-saving. However, because LED displays are usually used in situations that require a large display area, the area ranges from tens to thousands of square meters. Long-term operation and high-brightness playback naturally consume a lot of power. I once saw a report on the power consumption of LED displays in the 2015 LED display news. The article calculated based on the standard of an outdoor P16 display with an average power of 272W/m², 14 hours a day, and a total area of 12 million m². The electricity consumption of outdoor displays in the country reached approximately 16.7 billion kilowatt hours in a year. According to the annual power generation of the Three Gorges Dam in 2014, which was 98.8 billion kilowatt hours, the daily power generation was approximately 270 million kilowatt hours. The annual electricity consumption of 12 million square meters of outdoor LED display is equivalent to about 60 days of power generation of the Three Gorges Dam, which is equivalent to the consumption of about 8.5 million tons of raw coal and the emission of nearly 17 million tons of carbon dioxide.
Let’s not discuss whether such calculations are biased or not, but just from reading between the lines, we can easily see that in terms of energy saving of LED displays, every company in the industry still has a lot of room for growth.
In recent years, LED display companies have focused on the research and development of energy-saving LED displays. Many display companies in the industry have successively launched ultra-low power consumption, energy-saving LED products. By using high-efficiency LED light-emitting chips, they do not cut corners; they use high-efficiency switching power supplies, which greatly Improve the power conversion efficiency; carry out excellent screen heat dissipation design to reduce the power consumption of the fan; design a scientific overall circuit scheme to reduce the power consumption of the internal circuit; automatically adjust the brightness of the outdoor LED display according to changes in the external environment, thereby achieving the effect of energy saving and emission reduction.
Such technological improvements have achieved energy-saving effects, but there are also many doubts in the industry, and there is no absolute voice. It can be seen that it is easier said than done to achieve real energy saving in LED display screens.
In terms of energy saving of LED displays, technological innovation and improvement is one aspect, but is there any way other than displays that can achieve the ideal effect of energy saving on LED displays?
Nowadays, solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, etc. are considered to be the most green energy sources with the greatest potential and value for green development. Due to factors such as technology and cost, the current application scope of these green energy sources is still very limited. However, the author believes that the potential of solar energy for LED displays can still be explored. Currently in the LED industry, the combination of solar energy and LED lighting has been recognized by more audiences and has broad prospects.
LED displays and LED lighting are very different in terms of production and application. However, with the continuous development of LED displays, more and more LED displays are moving from the south to the north, from the plains to the plateaus, and from hot zones to cold zones. Different cities, different terrains, and different sunlight illuminance all have advantages in solar energy development. Under the premise that LED display energy-saving technology continues to mature and improve, supplemented by solar technology, the two are organically combined and integrated, making solar energy a powerful supplement to the display's power consumption, thereby achieving the purpose of reducing total power consumption.
Such an attempt may seem fanciful, but under the premise of the overall goal of being green and energy-saving, it is not impossible for the LED display industry and the photovoltaic industry to form an alliance to jointly negotiate, respond, and solve relevant technical problems, so as to innovatively produce display products that meet market demand and are acceptable to the audience. To be sure, with the continuous development of solar energy technology, solar aircraft and solar cars may appear in the future. Technology can always be broken through level by level. To change development concepts and truly use the "green" business card, LED display companies still need to take bold steps and have the courage to try.
