It is reported that Apple has been keeping its car plans secret. It was previously reported that Apple originally planned to launch its first car in 2025, but relevant sources said that Apple has postponed the car release date to 2026.
Foreign media predict that if the Apple car is released by then, it may become the first model in the industry to be equipped with a Micro LED display. It is understood that Micro LED has the characteristics of low energy consumption, high brightness and reliability, which can promote the development of electric vehicles in the future.
According to the latest research forecast released by TrendForce, after 2025, displays based on Micro LED technology will be widely used in the automotive industry.
TrendForce's "2023 Micro LED Market Trend and Technology Cost Analysis Report" points out that instrument displays, head-up displays (HUD), which have high demands for reliability and brightness, and transparent displays that have many imaginative connections with self-driving technology are all priority ways for Micro LED displays to enter the automotive field. At present, European, American and Japanese car brands are relatively active manufacturers in evaluating Micro LED.
It is worth noting that since this year, Apple has been constantly developing Micro LED technology applications. The media predicts that in 2026, Apple may expand the application of Micro LED to more products, including headsets, smartphones, and cars.
Currently, Apple has planned to apply Micro LED technology to Apple Watch, but TrendForce said that due to Apple’s recent adjustments to the supply chain, the launch of the first Apple Watch equipped with a Micro LED display will be postponed from 2025 to 2026. It is reported that Apple will transfer the large-volume transfer process in the production of Micro LED version of Apple Watch to LGD.
In addition, news has recently come out that Apple is secretly designing and testing Micro LED displays for iPhones in a small manufacturing plant near its headquarters in California, USA, and plans to upgrade the iPhone screen material from OLED to Micro LED in the future.
