On April 28, JDI released a media statement document stating that the company is evaluating "providing operational and technical support to an advanced display panel factory headquartered in the United States." But as of now, the parties involved have not made any decisions.
According to a report by Nikkei on March 8, the Japanese government has negotiated JDI’s investment in building a display panel factory in the United States. The former hopes to have JDI operate the most advanced panel factory to be built in the United States. The estimated scale of the project is US$13 billion, which is part of Japan's US$5,500 investment plan in the United States.
It is reported that as early as February 2025, JDI announced a strategic investment in the US OLED manufacturer OLEDWorks.
The two parties plan to jointly build a display factory and R&D center in the United States. This will be the first advanced display factory of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, using JDI's eLEAP (maskless evaporation) technology and OLEDWorks' multi-stack OLED technology to focus on the production of advanced display panels for high value-added fields such as automotive, medical, defense and aerospace.
It is worth mentioning that JDI has been accelerating corporate restructuring in recent years. JDI stated in May 2025 that in order to get rid of the long-term loss situation in the display industry with fierce global competition, major strategic adjustments must be made. Under the "BEYOND DISPLAY" growth strategy, JDI is promoting a thorough restructuring of the company's business to drive rapid profitability and sustainable growth. On the one hand, the company has significantly reduced display business costs, and on the other hand, it is relying on its own technology accumulation to accelerate its deployment in the high-growth advanced semiconductor packaging and sensor fields.
On March 31 this year, JDI announced that it would sell the Tottori factory in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, for approximately 23 million yuan; in addition, JDI is also seeking to sell the Mohara G6 factory in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
Financial data shows that from April 1 to December 31, 2025, JDI achieved sales of 97.276 billion yen, a year-on-year decrease of 32.2%; operating profit was -18.730 billion yen; net profit was -14.533 billion yen.
