Jiangsu Province to phase out incandescent lamps by 2020

The six provincial departments of economy and information, development and reform, science and technology, finance, housing construction, and quality supervision issued the "Opinions on Accelerating the Development of the Semiconductor (LED) Lighting Industry" yesterday, formulating a "two-step" "timetable" - by 2015, the market share of incandescent lamps for general lighting will drop to less than 10%, and incandescent lamps with more than 60 watts will be basically eliminated in the province; by 2020, all incandescent lamps will be eliminated in the province, and the market share of LED lighting products will further increase.
LED lighting has the advantages of low power consumption, long life, rich colors, and strong controllability. Among them, LED downlights, bulbs and other products save about 70% of energy compared with incandescent lamps. It is an energy-saving and environmentally friendly industry that the country encourages the development of. Jiangsu is one of the fastest growing regions in the LED lighting industry, with output value accounting for 12% of the country's total. The development of LED lighting not only meets the requirements of energy conservation and environmental protection, but also promotes the development of emerging industries.
With the application of LED lighting, Jiangsu Province will take the lead in promoting and popularizing lighting projects in public places invested and constructed by public institutions, finance or state-owned capital. All new lighting projects will use LED products. The original non-LED products should be transformed in phases and in batches before the end of 2016. At the same time, a number of demonstration projects will be implemented in commercial, industrial, outdoor, medical, agricultural, landscape lighting and other fields. All localities must implement government procurement policies for energy-saving products, and government agencies and public institutions will take the lead in adopting LED lighting products. In fixed asset investment projects invested and constructed by fiscal or state-owned capital, LED lighting will be an important part of the project energy-saving assessment and review.
In accordance with the clear goals of the "Opinions", the output value of the province's LED lighting industry is expected to exceed 100 billion in 2020, which is equivalent to quadrupling the current basis.
