Macao Civil Affairs Bureau’s facilities are equipped with energy-saving LEDs and achieved satisfactory results

The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macau launched an LED light energy-saving program in its parks, leisure areas and other facilities in early 2013, with satisfactory results in saving electricity and maintenance resources.
Since the IACM manages many facilities and their locations are relatively scattered, taking into account the advantages of LED lights and the increasingly mature technology, the IACM launched an LED light energy-saving plan at the beginning of last year. In addition to saving energy, it also hopes to reduce the cost of human resources, time and parts for maintenance and repair. The selected sites for the plan include the Reservoir Walking Trail, Ho Yin Park, Tak Shing Garden and Wasko Park. Different LED lighting facilities will be replaced according to the actual conditions such as the location of the pilot and the surrounding environment.
Save 30% to 75% of electricity
In May last year, the IACM completed the lighting improvement project within the Reservoir Walking Trail, installing a total of 50 sets of four-meter-high 60W LED disc-shaped lamp posts to enhance the brightness and illumination range of this section; and turning off a total of 24 spotlights (each 250W) on six large lamp posts to improve energy conservation. After the improvement project was completed, the data was analyzed and the total electricity consumption was reduced by 53% compared with the previous year. The lighting improvement project in Ho Yin Park was completed in July last year, and a total of 80 sets of four-meter-high 30W LED garden-style wave light poles were replaced in the park. The total power consumption was reduced by 31.4% compared with the previous year. Tak Shing Garden and Wasko Park also replaced 14 sets and 28 sets of 30W LED garden-style wave light poles in February this year, respectively, saving 43.4% and 57% of electricity compared with the five months before the improvement. In addition, the lighting in the pedestrian tunnel connecting the Hong Kong and Macau Ferry Terminal to the parking lot and the basement parking lot of Ha Wan Market has been replaced with 18W LED light tubes, with an energy saving rate of 50% to 75%.
Works well with few failures
The above-mentioned lighting system energy-saving improvement plan has achieved satisfactory results. In addition to reducing electricity consumption, the lamps have been operating well since the improvement project, and most of them have not experienced malfunctions. This reflects the stability and reliability of the LED lamps, which greatly reduces the time and cost of maintenance. In the future, based on the results of this project, the IACM will gradually improve and optimize its facilities for public use, while also achieving energy conservation and environmental protection.
