Samsung and LG Electronics announce preliminary results for 2025Q2

Samsung Electronics

In the second quarter of 2025, Samsung Electronics achieved sales of 74 trillion won (approximately RMB 388.870 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 0.09%, and a month-on-month decrease of 6.49%; operating profit was 4.6 trillion won (approximately RMB 24.173 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 55.94%, and a month-on-month decrease of 31.24%, which was lower than the previous market expectation of 6.69 trillion won.

In terms of single-quarter operating profit, this is the lowest since the fourth quarter of 2023 (2.8247 trillion won); if the second quarter of previous years is used as a reference, it is the lowest record since the second quarter of 2023 (668.5 billion won).

Currently, Samsung Electronics has not announced the specific performance of each department, but it is expected that the operating profit of the company's Device Solutions (DS) department, which is engaged in the semiconductor business, will reach about 1 trillion won.

Operating profit of other business segments The profit forecasts are: about 2 trillion won for the mobile experience (MX) and network business sectors, 600 billion to 700 billion won for the display sector, 400 billion to 500 billion won for the TV and home appliances sector, and 300 billion to 400 billion won for the automotive electronics sector.

LG Electronics

LG Electronics’ comprehensive revenue in the second quarter of 2025 was 20.74 trillion won (approximately RMB 108.989 billion), and operating profit was 639.1 billion won (approximately RMB 3.358 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 4.4% and 46.6% respectively.

LG Electronics said that in this quarter, the company's revenue and operating profit both declined year-on-year. Consumer sentiment in major markets has slowly recovered, the business environment remains unfavorable, and changes in the world trade policy environment have led to rising tariff costs and intensified market competition.

During the reporting period, LG Electronics' home appliances, B2B and HVAC businesses performed well and maintained healthy profitability. Due to slowing demand, rising LCD panel prices and increased marketing expenses due to intensified competition, the company's media and entertainment solutions business was under pressure in the quarter, and profitability was also affected by rising costs.
