Shanxi will establish LED industry alliance

The LED industry in Shanxi Province started in the 1980s. Since 2009, heavy investment has occurred, and the industry has risen rapidly. At present, the number of LED enterprises in Shanxi Province has grown from 8 in 2010 to 23 in 2013, and the number of employees has increased from less than 100 to nearly 5,000. The products involve all links of the industrial chain, and have initially covered all links of "substrate material-epitaxial wafer-chip-packaging-application", laying a good foundation for industrial development.

According to reports, the main investors of LED companies in Shanxi Province mainly come from the coal and coke industry, with large investments and fast growth. From 2010 to 2012, the investment scale of LED industry in Shanxi Province reached 3.5 billion yuan, 5.8 billion yuan, and 7.2 billion yuan respectively, with an average annual growth rate of 43%. More than ten major projects such as Shanxi Coslight, Lebalite, and Changzhi High-tech have been put into operation. At present, Shanxi Province has the annual production capacity of 4.5 billion chips, 4.26 million sets of lamps, 30,000 square meters of display screens, 1 million power supplies, and 15,000 sets of street lamps.

However, due to its late start and lack of experience, Shanxi's LED industry is small in scale, has insufficient supporting facilities, and has relatively poor market competitiveness. The relevant person in charge of the Shanxi Provincial Economic and Information Technology Commission said that at present, LED companies in Shanxi Province still lack core talents and technologies, and the talent echelon has not yet been established. The core technology of high-end epitaxial chip production technology is controlled by others, and the product types are single and the homogenization phenomenon is serious. The establishment of the province's industrial alliance will help LED companies "hold together for warmth" and work together to become bigger and stronger.
