While the LED industry is developing rapidly, technological innovation faces severe challenges. However, among the two driving forces of technology traction and market promotion, the characteristics of technology traction at this stage are more prominent, and the rapid progress of technological innovation has provided strong support for industrial development.
In terms of LED chips, the independent innovation capabilities of Chinese enterprises have continued to improve, and the gap with the international advanced level has been significantly narrowed. Breakthroughs have been made in key LED technologies, and the luminous efficiency of devices has been continuously improved. The power of blue LED has reached 140lm/W, red LED has reached 90lm/W, and green LED has reached 140lm/W. It is worth mentioning that silicon substrate LED has reached 140lm/W and has been mass-produced, leading the world.
In terms of packaging, packaging technology is developing in the form of flip-chip, COB, integrated packaging and standardized modules to meet the needs of rapid development in multiple application fields.
While the luminous efficiency of LED devices continues to improve, mainstream companies are paying more attention to improving the comprehensive performance of LED products in terms of independent innovation, including chip yield (between chips, between batches), packaging yield, color temperature, color rendering index, lifespan and reliability, etc.; and strengthening innovation in process technology and mass production technology.
Not only that, my country’s LED-specific equipment, instruments and material supporting capabilities are also gradually taking shape. The self-innovated metal-organic source (MO source) has achieved large-scale application, accounting for more than 60% of the domestic market; sapphire substrate materials can satisfy more than 50% of the domestic market. Currently, patterned substrates are already being supplied in batches, and the adjustment of product structure has achieved results; self-developed phosphors and plastic sealing resins account for 30% of the market share.
At the end of 2012, MOCVD, an epitaxial equipment successfully developed by many domestic companies, began process integration with chip manufacturers. Domestic equipment such as MOCVD supported by the Electronic Development Fund project in 2013 and 2014 has entered the chip production line for trial use. Judging from the current situation, progress is going smoothly. At the same time, a variety of special equipment for LED production and a variety of optical, electrical, color, and thermal performance testing instruments have been used in LED production lines and are running stably.
With the continuous coordinated development of the LED industry chain, my country's LED industry system is gradually taking shape.
