From November 30 to December 1, the 2022 World Display Industry Conference hosted by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology was held. In recent years, with strong policy support, my country's new display industry has continued to accelerate and reach a "new level", and the industrial scale has continued to expand. As an important base for the global new display industry, Sichuan proposes to build a world-class new display industry cluster.
The industry is growing rapidly
With the advent of the digital economy wave, the display screen has become the first point of contact and important port for information interaction. In 2021, the global display industry output value will exceed 1.6 trillion yuan. Among them, the output value of display devices was 1 trillion yuan, and the output value of display materials and equipment exceeded 560 billion yuan and 89 billion yuan respectively.
In recent years, my country's new display industry has maintained rapid growth. In 2021, my country's new display industry's revenue will exceed 580 billion yuan, and the annual display panel production capacity will reach 200 million square meters, strongly supporting applications in smartphones, TVs, monitors, laptops, tablets and other fields.
Liu Wenqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the China Electronic Information Industry Development Research Institute, said that in the past ten years or so, China's new display industry has achieved leapfrog development. From the perspective of scale and volume, the scale of China's new display industry continues to grow, with an average annual compound growth rate of 25.8% from 2012 to 2021. China's display industry is huge in scale, providing a huge market for the development of the industrial chain and supply chain. With the newWith the high-quality development of the display industry, display-specific materials and equipment will usher in huge market opportunities. From the perspective of regional distribution, the four major regions of China's new display industry have concentrated development and each has its own characteristics. In recent years, the central and western regions have accelerated the construction of production lines and have strong growth potential.
Empowering emerging fields
In the era of digital economy, the ubiquitous nature of displays has become increasingly prominent, continuously empowering fields such as consumer electronics, digital cultural creation, landscape tourism, digital medical care, vehicle-mounted displays, and virtual reality.
Currently, new display companies are vying to deploy in automotive display, virtual reality and other fields. Wang Cheng, chief operating officer of TCL Technology Group Co., Ltd., told a reporter from China Securities Journal: "Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, new energy vehicles are more intelligent and have greater demand for display screens. Currently, display manufacturers are focusing on in-vehicle display business. We have reached good cooperation with leading domestic new energy vehicle companies such as BYD, and are actively expanding overseas new energy vehicle customers. In 2022, our in-vehicle display business revenue will increase significantly."
TCL Huaxing, a subsidiary of TCL Technology Group Co., Ltd., focuses on technologies such as folding screens, expands new VR/AR display fields, and optimizes product and customer structure.
Visionox Technology Co., Ltd. focuses on the emerging display business, developing, producing and selling OLED small and medium-sized display devices, as well as Micro LED products. As the third generation display technologytechnology, OLED application scenarios continue to expand. Xu Fengying, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Visionox Technology Co., Ltd., said: "The company is preparing to enter the automotive display field. We have close ties with automobile manufacturers and hope to cooperate with automobile manufacturers in product research and development. The market for OLED in the automotive field will become larger and larger in the future. At the same time, we are actively expanding the application of OLED in other fields, including VR/AR."
Gao Wenbao, President of BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd., said: "Currently, one of every four displays in the world comes from BOE."
At the 2022 World Display Industry Conference New Display Innovation Achievements Exhibition, BOE demonstrated a T-shaped triple display screen that can be applied to smart cockpits. Its built-in naked-eye 3D technology can highlight driving warnings on the dashboard and improve intelligent and humanized functions during driving operations. In addition, its built-in eye tracking technology can automatically switch between 2D and 3D scenes at the same time. BOE continues to apply high-end display technology to innovative fields such as industrial control, wearables, medical, home, urban outdoor, VR/AR, etc.
Focus on strengthening the industrial chain
Sichuan’s new display panel shipments rank third in the country. 50% of the world’s notebook computers and 10% of smartphones are manufactured in the Chengdu-Chongqing region. Nearly half of the world’s high-end flexible screens are produced in Sichuan. Sichuan has become an important production base for the global new display industry.
Huang Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Sichuan Province, said, Sichuan firmly promotes the display industry as a strategic emerging industry, will increase support, create a first-class industrial development environment, and build a world-class new display industry cluster.
At this conference, 75 new display industry cooperation projects were signed, with a total investment of 155.7 billion yuan, involving materials, parts, panels, modules, terminals and other industrial chain links. Among them, there are 43 projects in Chengdu, with a total investment of more than 100 billion yuan.
In recent years, Chengdu has insisted on taking new display as a key industrial chain and an important focus, accelerating the construction of an industrial ecosystem that integrates chain owners, chain-affiliated companies, public platforms, intermediaries, industrial investment funds, and leading talents, and has become an important pole in the global new display industry sector. Chengdu's new display industry has established a complete industrial chain from polarizers, masks, industrial gases to panel manufacturing, covering flexible displays, liquid crystal displays, laser displays, micro displays and other fields. The output of high-end flexible screens accounts for nearly half of the world, and panel production capacity ranks fourth in the country.
Huang Qiang said that Sichuan will seize opportunities for the industrialization of new-generation display technology, vigorously improve R&D and innovation capabilities around cutting-edge technologies such as flexibility, laser, holography, and quantum dots, focus on strengthening the industrial chain, accelerate the development of the entire industrial chain covering core panel materials, components, basic equipment, terminal production and other links, and continuously enhance the independent controllability of the industrial chain.
