The development of small spacing in recent years can be described as rapid progress and rapid progress. The technology is constantly maturing and improving, and it is moving towards excellence, ultimate and perfection on the basis of high-quality display screens. Costs and selling prices are falling rapidly, market acceptance has been significantly improved, and application fields are constantly extending and expanding. It is shining brightly in the commercial field, and more consumers are beginning to understand, be familiar with and appreciate small spacing LED products.
The success of small pitch is inseparable from the support of supporting products behind the curtain, among which driver IC is particularly important. However, the rise of small spacing has also brought many new problems to driver ICs. Around these problems, innovation and change in driver ICs have quietly accelerated.
Luo Jikang, LED display chip product director of Macroblock Technology Co., Ltd., believes: "The basic driver IC cannot achieve high-quality screen display with small spacing. There are seven major problems with small spacing (white screen). The solution to color cast, text ghosting, low gray unevenness, first scan line darkness, gradient dark lines, LED dead pixel crosses and high contrast interference) can only be achieved through high-end driver ICs; while SSOP-24 and QFN-24 packages cannot solve the wiring problems of product PCB boards with smaller dot pitches (below P1.5), multi-channel driver ICs will become an inevitable choice."
Zhang Zhe, LED display marketing manager of Beijing Jichuang North Technology Co., Ltd., believes: "The small spacing brings two major challenges to the driver IC: 1) Cost. In order to achieve high refresh and high grayscale indicators in the 32-scan driver circuit, a PWM driver IC with built-in SRAM must be used, which brings great challenges to the driver IC. The cost of dynamic IC has greatly improved; 2) Due to the parasitic capacitance effect of LED lights and row driving circuits, small spacing has many problems with low gray effects, such as the first scan darkening problem that plagued the industry in the early days, the most difficult to deal with in the later stage, the high contrast coupling problem, and the cross-board chromatic aberration problem."
Zhao Yichen, general manager of Suzhou Riyuecheng Technology Co., Ltd., believes: "The key challenge is how to support small-pitch displays to achieve accurate color temperature control, color restoration, and energy saving."
Chen Riyi, technical director of Hangzhou Vision Technology Co., Ltd., said: "Small spacing puts forward higher requirements for grayscale accuracy, display refresh rate, elimination of various effects on the display effect caused by possible opening and short circuits due to scan drivers and LED lamp beads, and control of power consumption and electromagnetic characteristics in addition to driving LED lamp beads to effectively emit light."
Yan Qi, deputy general manager of Shanghai Debei Electronic Technology Co., Ltd., said: "Small spacing requires driver ICs to improve performance indicators and technical parameters on the basis of general-purpose basic ICs, and add some new functions, such as eliminating up and down smear functions, eliminating caterpillars, etc., and requires driver ICs to be smaller or more integrated."
Some people in the industry believe that the driver IC has a certain mission. Whether small pitch can continue and develop better, the driver IC has a great significance. The author believes that challenges are also opportunities. Small pitch not only brings many challenges to driver IC manufacturers, but it also provides them with an excellent stage for innovation and change. If you seize the opportunity, you may achieve success. There is no shortcut to success, but success requires opportunities. Only through continuous innovation and change can IC manufacturers stay at the forefront of the small-pitch era. Only through continuous innovation and change can IC manufacturers seize opportunities and achieve success.
