On March 10, Zhaochi Co., Ltd. announced that the company’s optical communications R&D center in Wuhan has completed all preparatory work and has been officially put into operation.
According to the R&D center plan, the institution will focus deeply on the cutting-edge evolution direction of the optical module field, focusing on technical research around high speed, integration, low power consumption and intelligence. In terms of packaging architecture, the center will carry out research on the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as silicon photonics integration, co-packaging optics (CPO) and near-field packaging optics (NPO). At the same time, the R&D team will also explore low-power paths such as linear drive pluggable optics (LPO) and the application potential of new materials such as Micro LED in optical devices to build a multi-dimensional technology matrix.
Zhaochi Co., Ltd. stated that at present, the talent echelon of the R&D center has been basically completed, and all core R&D personnel are in place. In the future, the company will continue to increase the introduction of high-end talents in the field of optical communications to provide lasting intellectual support for technology research and development.
At last year’s 20th anniversary conference of Zhaochi Technology, Zhaochi Technology stated that it was optimistic about the development of the semiconductor laser market, including optical communications, and clearly listed the fields of compound semiconductor optical chips, devices and modules as key strategic sectors in the next twenty years.
Today, in the face of the increasing global demand for AI computing power and the increasing requirements for high-speed data transmission, Zhaochi Technology continues to accelerate its move towards the high end of the optical communications industry chain. Relying on its technology accumulation in the fields of Micro LED chips and optical communications, Zhaochi has formed a vertical layout from optical chips to optical modules. Its 400G and 800G high-speed optical modules are expected to be shipped in small batches in the second quarter of 2026.
The official operation of Wuhan Optical Communications R&D Center not only improves Zhaochi's national R&D layout, but also helps it shorten the technology transformation cycle through industry-university-research cooperation. During the technology iteration window period of the optical module market, Zhaochi Technology is expected to further optimize the product structure of its optical communications business through in-depth layout of deterministic technology routes such as CPO and silicon photonics.
