AUO and Innolux increase their focus on MicroLED, targeting the AI, automotive and high-end display markets

AUO and Innolux are two giants in the panel industry. AUO is targeting Micro LED business opportunities. AUO has combined AI applications to target TV, information technology (IT), automotive and other fields, and has won orders from major manufacturers such as Samsung and Sony Mobility. Innolux has established a new company, Innolux, to focus on automotive, large-size TV and other related layouts.

Micro LED, with its high-performance advantages such as high-definition transparency, seamless splicing, large-scale, and flexible flexibility, has become equipped with AI functions and has become the first choice for overall solutions from high-end display to smart mobile, retail, medical, entertainment, education, and AI optical communications, attracting panel giants to rush in.

AUO general manager Ke Furen said that AUO’s focus on display technology is not only quantity, but also more applications combined with AI. He emphasized that 2024 is the year when AUO Micro LED will move from technology development to marketization and mass production, from the R&D line to the completion of the 4.5-generation mass production line layout of the Longtan factory.

Ke Furen revealed that AUO Micro LED has been in contact with TV, IT, automotive and other customers Among the orders, orders from Japanese company Sony mobility are key products produced by AUO's 4.5-generation line. It is planned that new cars incorporating AUO's Micro LED products will be launched in the United States in the second half of 2026.

Ke Furen believes that the mobile field will become the most potential pioneer of Micro LED. Smart Cockpit 2025, jointly created by AUO and BHTC, expands human-machine interaction as a pioneer in smart cockpits, drives a more intelligent and intuitive driving experience, and demonstrates AUO's leading strength in Micro LED technology innovation.

In addition, AUO’s 114-inch spliced ​​MicroLED TV has been delivered to Samsung. AUO is optimistic that transparent display is also a key application. MicroLED does not replace mainstream products, but uses its characteristics to create new application markets, help customers obtain higher prices, and simultaneously invest in future profit proportions, which will be higher than revenue.

Innolux Micro LED products are planned to be manufactured at its 3.5-generation low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) production line first, and in the future at the sixth-generation line. Related technologies have been implemented in automobiles and large-size TVs, and they are also discussing mass production plans with customers.

Innolux’s color conversion technology plans to be used in large-size display panels and automotive panels. The color conversion Micro LED technology is expected to be shipped within one to two years; the development time for automotive displays is longer, taking two to three years.

Hong Jinyang, Chairman of Innolux, said that Innolux AM Micro LED third-generation display technology has been approved for nearly 580 patents in the United States. It has many excellent features such as high image quality, seamless free splicing, fast response speed, low power consumption, and ultra-power saving.
