On April 8, Sony officially announced its next-generation Mini LED TV technology brand "True RGB" through its official X account. This technology uses an independent red, green, and blue (RGB) LED backlight system to directly emit light through the three primary colors, achieving purer color performance, higher brightness output, and the largest color volume performance in the history of Sony home TVs.
It is reported that color volume (color volume) is an important indicator of the comprehensive color capabilities of a display device, comprehensively reflecting the two dimensions of color gamut range and brightness range. A larger color volume means that the device can present richer and more accurate color gradations and transitions under different brightness conditions.
Sony stated that the True RGB Bravia TV is expected to be officially launched in the spring of 2026, and more product details will be disclosed in the future.
In fact, as early as March 16, Sony revealed in an official press release that its new generation of true color RGB TV had completed the world's first public image quality display at AWE2026.
Sony pointed out that the core advantages of this technology focus on three major aspects: wide color gamut coverage, precise grayscale control, and active wide viewing angle performance. In actual demonstrations, RGB LED TVs can maintain full colors and transparent images within the full brightness range, effectively improving the problem of color breakage in bright scenes. At the same time, they can still maintain stable color accuracy and contrast performance when viewed from multiple angles.
From a technical perspective, RGB Mini LED emits light independently through red, green, and blue LEDs. Compared with traditional monochrome backlight solutions, it can directly improve color gamut performance and enhance light control accuracy, thereby reducing color conversion losses. At present, the development of this technology route is accelerating. In addition to Sony, companies such as Hisense, Philips, Zhuimi, Huike, and Zhaochi have also launched RGB Mini LED related products or technical solutions this year.
It is worth noting that Sony has been making frequent moves in the TV business recently. On March 31, TCL Electronics announced that it would establish a joint venture with Sony for approximately HK$3.78 billion in cash and acquire Sony's Malaysian subsidiary SOEM to undertake Sony's home entertainment business (mainly including the development, manufacturing and sales of TV products). According to the agreement, TCL Electronics will hold 51% of the shares in the new joint venture, and Sony will hold 49% of the shares.
